John Mwaba BSW, RSW

John Mwaba, BSW, is a registered social worker with the Manitoba College of Social Workers and a founding member of the Manitoba Association of Black Social Workers. He is a dedicated social services professional with academic training in social work and legal studies, committed to advancing equity, culturally responsive practice, and anti-oppressive service delivery across Manitoba.

With 10 years of combined experience, John has honed his skills in frontline services, trauma-informed care, program development, and cultural advocacy. He brings extensive experience providing community-based therapy and support services to children and youth, supporting them through complex emotional, behavioural, and social challenges. His practice includes working with immigrants, Indigenous communities, individuals living with disabilities, and families facing systemic and socio-economic barriers.

In his current role as a Child and Family Services worker, John has developed a deep understanding of the systemic gaps within social services and the disproportionate challenges

experienced by marginalized communities. This insight continues to shape his commitment to improving service delivery and advocating for more equitable and inclusive systems of care.

John’s work focuses on advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, and collaborative family support, with a strong emphasis on culturally grounded and strengths-based approaches. He is passionate about increasing representation within the social work profession, strengthening community partnerships, and contributing to meaningful systemic change that improves outcomes for children, youth, and families across Manitoba.

John is enthusiastic about supporting the growth of the Manitoba Association of Black Social Workers and expanding its impact. His leadership, vision, and dedication are a testament to his commitment to creativity, collaboration, and advancing meaningful change within the social work profession and the broader community.
