The Manitoba Association of Black Social Workers (MABSW) was established to advance the voice, leadership, and professional excellence of Black social workers while promoting social justice, anti-oppressive practice, and community empowerment across Manitoba.

As an association we envision a Manitoba where Black social workers are recognized, connected and thriving while advancing equity and wellbeing for all communities. We are committed to fostering:
Mentorship
Creating opportunities to support and guide emerging Black social workers and students through professional development, relationship-building, and shared learning.
Advocacy
Amplifying the voices of Black social workers and challenging policies, practices, and systems that contribute to inequity and barriers within social services.
Scholarship and Knowledge Sharing Promoting research, learning, and professional contributions that recognize and elevate Black perspectives, experiences, and knowledge systems.
Solidarity and Support
Building a community where Black social workers can connect, collaborate, and support one another while navigating the complexities and emotional demands of social work practice.
Beyond programs and initiatives, MABSW represents a commitment to collective empowerment. It recognizes the longstanding contributions of Black social workers who have served, led, mentored, and advocated within communities—often while navigating systemic barriers and limited representation within the profession.
MABSW marks a movement from isolation to collaboration, from underrepresentation to visibility, and from simply navigating challenges to creating pathways for leadership, belonging, and collective success.
